Event Concept:
In an era where climate-induced disasters are escalating, the imperative to address the intersection of climate finance and human mobility has never been more urgent. Recent statistics reveal that a staggering 83% of natural disasters are triggered by extreme weather and climate events, resulting in profound impacts on vulnerable communities. These events have caused more than 410,000 casualties and affected 1.7 billion people globally in the last decade alone. Furthermore, humanitarian aid needs are projected to soar by 35% to $20 billion by 2030, emphasizing the critical need for coherent and effective financial strategies to address climate challenges before they become humanitarian crises.
Objectives:
This round table seeks to unravel the complexities of climate finance, focusing on its implications for human mobility in Africa. It endeavors to achieve the following goals:
- Clarify the diverse dimensions of "Finance" in the context of climate mobility within development and humanitarian frameworks.
- Uncover the gaps and needs within different forms of financing.
- Propose strategies to incentivize investments in marginalized regions and communities.
- Advocate for greater investment in government capacities, local actors, youth, and women groups to foster innovative adaptation and resilience.
This event provides a unique platform to engage with prominent experts, policy makers, and thought leaders as they delve into crucial questions shaping the future of climate finance and human mobility. By participating, you contribute to shaping actionable solutions that bridge the gap between ambition and tangible impact.
